Recreational Kayaking Experience (April to November)

For this experience, we will be running a 5 to 8 mile stretch of one of the Shenandoah Valley's great rivers for day trips, or paddling on one of the areas many lakes for half-day trips. We will be using Keowee and Manatee kayaks which have large open cockpits extending from the paddlers knees to the seat back. If the boat overturns, the paddler will simply fall out. These boats require no special training to enter, exit, or paddle. Participants will be provided boats, paddles, life jackets, dry bags (to take personal items down the river in), first aid kit, and bathroom kit.

Kayak Bird Watching Experience (Optional): The rivers of the Shenandoah Valley provide some great bird watching. If you love birds and want to try some gentle recreational kayaking to watch them - call us. We'll provide everything you need including binoculars.

Wear: Comfortable clothing or bathing suit appropriate for the expected weather and preferably made of synthetic fiber that dries quickly, and comfortable shoes that you do not mind getting wet and muddy in the river (No open toed shoes or sandals because they do not protect your toes and tops of your feet from rocks and sharp objects).

Pack For Day River Trips: A bag lunch sealed in a zip-lock bag; drinks in screw-top plastic bottles, and sunscreen.
Pack For Half-Day Lake Trips: Drinks in plastic screw-top bottles and sunscreen.
