Caves containing varying amounts of water are quite common in Virginia and make for some of the most interesting and challenging exploration of all caves. Passageway water depth will vary from ankle deep to deep enough to swim in. Participants will be provided neoprene wet suits or neoprene waders, gloves, and socks to help them stay warm. Due to the more physical nature of these caves, participants must be in very good physical condition and group size is limited to ten participants.
This trip requires an extra $10 per-person charge for wet suit or wader use, and the trip must be done as a full day trip. All other equipment and specialty clothing will be provided except for shoes which should offer good traction, ankle support, and be slightly loose to accommodate neoprene socks which must be worn inside of them. We suggest a synthetic bathing suit or synthetic long underwear be worn under the wet suit or waders (we can provide the synthetic long underwear for most size people).
Wear: a set of dry clothing to be worn to the cave and after leaving the cave and a synthetic bathing suit for warmer times of the year. Have two pairs of shoes - one slightly loose pair to be worn outside of neoprene socks (that we provide) and that you do not mind getting wet and muddy in the cave, and a second pair of shoes to be worn before and after caving. We will also provide you with a pair of coveralls that must be worn overtop of your wet suit or neoprene waders to protect them from damage from rocks.
Pack For Day Trips: a bag lunch and drinks.
